Obinna’s Meetings With Trans-Nzoia Political Bigwigs Cause Jitters Among Local Artists
In the build-up to Dem wa Facebook’shomecoming party, the comedian met top politicos in Kitale including Hon. George Natembeya who is the governor of Trans Nzoia.
Obinna shared a video of him with the governor inside his office where he claimed they discussed various youth empowerment projects including Trans-Nzoia Got Talent.
Watching on the sidelines were fuming local artists based in Kitale and other parts of the county. The hawk-eyed local talents also took note of area MP Caleb Amisi’s car that was making rounds publicizing the event.
In an unprecedented turn of events, the group confronted Obinna accusing him of sidelining local artists despite having the support of local leadership.
The group momentarily seemed to have overpowered his security as they attempted to assault him. One of their most vocal members accused Obinna of displaying extreme pride and treating local artists with spite.
An intense confrontation ensued as Obinna brushed off allegations of evading the artists. According to the artists Oga Obinna demeaned them by referring to them as local artists.
“Are you an international artist?” Obinna asked in defense, before driving off in a huff.
Local Artists in the Counties Decry Being Sidelined in Their Backyards
Obinna and the furious artists later converged in a room to settle their differences. With Dem wa Facebook present at the meeting, Obinna discussed with the furious artists the specifics of the event.
The former Churchil Show comedian shed more light on his intense engagement with local politicians that had got him in the musicians’ crosshairs.
Obinna clarified that no politician had funded the event and no funds were available to pay local artists in particular.
According to Obinna, MP Caleb Amisi had bought 100,000 shillings worth of tickets to be distributed to his constituents in Saboti.
He further explained that he was still sourcing for funds as he had not settled key expenses including tents for the event.
“Which politician gave me funds for event? I want you to mention them here in front of the cameras,” Obinna posed as he addressed the misbehaving artists in a video posted on Obinna TV updates.
The Obinna TV show host further explained: “The person who gave me 100,000 shillings is Hon. Caleb Amisi, with specific instructions that the money had bought tickets for his people in Saboti.”
Obinna also disclosed that he had not secured funding from Governor Natembeya and Trans-Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang despite efforts to follow up with them.
The Secretary General Trans-Nzoia Creatives Association came to their defense saying the artists have for long been sidelined in many county entertainment events making them suspicious when politicians back events in the county.
The cries mirror those of their counterparts in Nakuru who also staged demos in Kenya’s fourth city. The young creatives accused Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika of importing and propping foreign artists at their expense.
Governor Kihika was called out for paying artists peanuts in county events, way below what performers drawn from Nairobi earned. According to them, they were told that their presence at county events was more about exposure, not the money.
While Obinna extended an opportunity for the Kitale artists to make an appearance at his event, he did not guarantee payment to them.
Dem wa Facebook also weighed in on the matter, blasting the artists for embarrassing her in front of her boss and mentor Oga Obinna.

Despite the biting disquiet among local artists, Dem wa Facebook’s Kitale homecoming party went down in style.
Organized to celebrate Dem Wa Facebook’s success as a digital content creator, the event was attended by entertainment big shots including Eric Omondi.
Omondi is a self-styled President of Comedy in Africa and a former Churchil Show headliner.
Amid the fanfare, the leading comedian who also presides over the Sisi kwa Sisi welfare movement graciously escorted Dem wa Facebook to the stage.
The fast rising female sensation took to the stage for the ultimate victory lap, pulling stunning dance moves in her exotic gown.
His alleged boyfriend and comedian Oga Obinna took the role of MC, dropping one of his best performances yet on the mic.
