  • THEE Sama Sambit is one of the most intriguing young content creators in Africa today, largely because of his controversial and often provocative opinions about South African society.
  • The 20-year-old content creator, formally known as Mr. SGJ Sambit, has built a growing audience through his YouTube channel, THEE Sama Sambit, which has surpassed 60,000 subscribers.
  • Through the platform, he delivers fiery and unapologetic commentary on social issues, youth culture, and politics in South Africa.
  • In a candid and unfiltered conversation with fellow YouTuber Renaldo Gouws, Sambit opened up about his unexpected rise in the online commentary space and the motivations behind his work.

How THEE Sama Sambit Went Viral

According to Sambit, his journey into the world of YouTube began under very different circumstances from what many people might expect today.

He revealed that he first opened his YouTube channel more than six years ago as a personal project aimed at improving his public speaking skills and boosting his confidence.

At the time, he had no clear ambition to become a widely known social commentator.

The name “THEE Sama Sambit” was coined during this early stage of experimentation as he learned how to structure his thoughts and communicate them effectively through video.

Although he appreciates how the channel has grown over time, the self-styled “South African Chief of Sarcasm” insists that his work was never initially driven by the pursuit of viral fame, likes, or online popularity.

His perspective changed gradually after he began noticing that his clips were attracting attention from viewers across the internet.

Encouraged by the positive reception, Sambit decided to double down on social commentary and expand the topics he discussed.

The channel’s popularity surged dramatically in early 2025 when several of his videos began circulating widely online.

In these videos, Sambit delivered sharp critiques of issues such as the challenges facing South Africa’s education system, the behavior of young people, and what he described as hypocrisy among celebrities, politicians, and segments of the broader community.

The blunt nature of his commentary continues to set him apart from many other creators in the digital space.

Mission, Ideology, and the Call for Authenticity

Sama’s views often diverge from what many consider the dominant public narratives in South Africa.

As a result, critics have sometimes accused him of promoting viewpoints aligned with minority groups that are at loggerheads with black South Africans.

Sambit, however, rejects such characterizations and argues that they undermine genuine debate and limit freedom of thought.

He refuses to be boxed into any particular ideological camp, insisting he follows what he believes to be the truth, regardless of whether it aligns with popular opinion.

During the interview, Sambit described his channel as part of a broader movement of independent thinkers who seek to expose the garbage and useless narratives promoted by mainstream media.

He also expressed concern about what he described as powerful forces that attempt to shape public discourse and influence online content.

Sambit referenced fellow controversial creator Peter Kriel, whom he accused of producing content that appears overly polished and influenced by outside interests.

While Sambit clarified that he has no personal hostility toward Kriel, he argued that such content lacks the raw authenticity he values in independent commentary.

During the interview, Gouws praised the young commentator for his willingness to speak openly about difficult topics, describing him as one of a new generation of independent voices emerging in South Africa.

Clutching his trademark throw pillow, Sambit acknowledged the encouragement and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing to expose what he considers uncomfortable truths about society.
