Football fans in Mombasa have a new reason to celebrate as a giant screen installed atop Mombasa Mall now broadcasts live football matches for free.

The scenes during late evenings in Mombasa Central Business District are nothing short of extraordinary.

Fans sit calmly around the iconic Mwembe Tayari roundabout and its vicinity, fully engrossed in blockbuster football matches, with hundreds of eyes fixed on the crystal-clear display.

KenyaScoop spoke to a public toilet attendant in Mwembe Tayari who has been observing the crowds for months. He noted that the screen offers exceptional clarity, visible from nearly a kilometer away.

“You can see every pass, every goal, and every save without straining,” he says as he follows from his patch behind an electricity pole.

The lively chap revealed that during headline fixtures, the entire Mwembe Tayari area transforms into a massive drive-in cinema, with vehicles parked and crowds standing just to catch a glimpse of the action.

The massive screen is strategically mounted high atop a multi-storey building, keeping it safe from vandals and the bustling crowds below.

Its elevated position allows football lovers to gather safely and enjoy the matches without disruption, creating a unique communal experience that has captured the attention of visitors.

The serene atmosphere, punctuated only by collective cheers and gasps, highlights how sports can unite people.

Next time you find yourself in Mombasa late in the evening, pass by Mwembe Tayari, and you might just be lucky to watch a game of football.
