Hussein Mohammed, Murang’a Seal Vice Chair Emerges as Top Contender in FKF Elections

  • It’s all systems go for Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections set to be held this year after a successful Special General Meeting.
  • The meeting attended by 89 delegates from across Kenya together with representatives from various leagues passed the election board and electoral guidelines.
  • Murang’a SEAL FC vice chairman Hussein Mohammed is among the frontrunners for the Wednesday showdown that has also attracted Kenya’s top gun Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino.

 

Hussein Mohammed Cleared to Run Despite Tough Electoral Code

Mr. Mohammed narrowly avoided disqualification due to the newly introduced FKF Electoral Code, which initially jeopardized his eligibility to run.

The articulate Murang’a SEAL club official is said to have been with the club for less than a month. This is at odds with the passed FKF Electoral Code that requires contestants to have been active in Kenyan football.

The FKF Code provides that one has to be registered as an NEC member, committee member, referee, assistant referee, coach trainer, and any other person responsible for technical, medical, or administrative matters in FKF, League, or Club or as a player for three of the last four years before being proposed as a candidate.
Mohammed’s bid for the FKF top seat survived by a whisker thanks to consensus within the football federation that no candidate will be locked out of the race.

Hussein Mohammed Drums Up Support For FKF Presidency

Hussein Mohammed was recently on the Kenyan coast taking stock of grassroots football while working on a path to the FKF presidency.

The high-ranking club official and social justice advocate was in attendance for the Dola Super Cup Coast Finals held at the Mombasa Sports Club last weekend.

 

Mohammed called for free fair and credible elections, urging the FKF to enlist the support of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

According to Mohammed, IEBC has the capability and experience in election matters and should be invited to support the FKF Elections Board.

The winning candidate will be tasked with progressing the country’s football which is coming from the ruins of a FIFA ban that was revoked recently.
