1. Kenya Police FC
Kenya Police FC is a Kenyan football club based at the Administration Police Training College in Embakasi, Nairobi, Kenya.
The club broke into the exclusive club of East African football royalty after lifting the Kenya Premier League title on June 22nd, 2025.
Known by the moniker Makarao, the club has experienced remarkable growth since its establishment in 2014.
Notably, it earned promotion to Kenya’s top-flight football in the 2020–2021 season, marking a significant milestone in its meteoric rise.
Kenya Police FC players were recently accorded a guard of honor by perennial winners Gor Mahia FC, signalling their new status on the Kenyan footballing scene.
Their victory was driven by all-around dominance, beginning with goalkeeper Job Ochieng, who clinched the Golden Glove after recording 13 clean sheets.
The Kenya Police defense lived up to its reputation as the league’s toughest, conceding the fewest goals throughout the season.

A Bittersweet Victory for Kenya Police FC
Backed by the National Police Service, Kenya Police FC’s recent league victory is a bittersweet moment.
While a significant achievement for the club, it comes amid public outcry against Kenya’s law enforcement for the excessive force used against protestors in recent civic demonstrations.
As the club’s rank and file dined with President Ruto at State House Nairobi following their victory, thousands of youth across the country poured onto the streets.
The crowds denounced the actions of the police, who have been under fire after popular blogger Albert Ojwang died in their custody.
Many other young men have died, and others are nursing serious injuries due to police excesses.

2. Gor Mahia FC
Gor Mahia Football Club is a professional football club based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Popularly known as K’Ogalo, the club has won the Kenyan Premier League a record 21 times, with lots of other domestic accolades.
Gor Mahia has long stood as the epitome of dominance in Kenyan football, with no other club consistently matching its strength and success over the years.
Led by chairman Ambrose Rachier, the club boasts the largest and most dedicated fan base in Kenya, with the majority of its supporters coming from the Nyanza region in Western Kenya.
Gor Mahia is also known for its high-profile domestic clashes with long-time rival AFC Leopards (Ingwe).
The fixtures, fondly known as the Mashemeji Derby, are iconic local showdowns, often compared to Spain’s El Clásico between Real Madrid and Barcelona in terms of rivalry and fan passion.
Club captain Philemon Otieno reportedly apologized to the cultic fanbase for the team’s failure to retain the title.

3. Young Africans S.C
Young Africans Sports Club is a Tanzanian professional football club based in Ilala District in the Dar es Salaam Region of Tanzania.
The club is regarded as a juggernaut of Tanzanian football and holds significant influence across the East African region.
Popularly known as Yanga, the club plays high-profile fixtures with its arch-rival Simba S.C., also based in Ilala District.
The derby is another major East African football spectacle that draws attention beyond Tanzania’s borders.
Yanga SC and Simba have traditionally battled closely for the league title, with neither side ever far behind the other.

4. Simba S.C
Simba Sports Club is a professional football club based in Kariakoo ward in Ilala District of Dar es Salaam Region in Tanzania.
Simba has long been locked in a fierce battle for dominance in Tanzanian football with its Ilala District rival, Yanga SC, based in the Jangwani ward.
Simba SC has won 22 Tanzanian Premier League titles, 7 fewer than its rival Yanga, which has a record 29 titles in the country’s top flight.
By match-day 30 of the 2024/25 season, only one point separated the titans, as the June 25th 2o25 title decider drew close.
5. Tusker FC
Tusker FC, also known as “The Brewers,” is a football club based within the premises of the East African Breweries Limited in Ruaraka, Nairobi.
It is the second most successful club in Kenya after Gor Mahia, with 13 Kenyan league titles. Founded in 1969 as Kenya Breweries by East African Breweries, it was renamed Tusker FC in 1999 after the popular beer brand “Tusker.”
In the 2024–25 FKF Premier League, Tusker have been genuine title contenders, momentarily topping the table in April 2025.
The club was, however, knocked off the top spot by the surging Kenya Police FC and the dominant Gor Mahia.
Despite the occasional blips, Tusker FC consistently maintains a position in the top half of the table.
Tusker has shown the capability of winning matches, including against strong opponents like Gor Mahia, and continues to be viewed as a formidable challenger for the Kenya Premier League title.
6. Vipers SC
Vipers Sports Club, popularly known as The Venoms, is one of Uganda’s most successful football clubs in recent years.
The club’s accomplished professionalism has propelled it to the precincts of glory, long occupied by heavy-hitters like Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA FC) and SC Villa.
While KCCA FC is a decorated club on account of league titles and domestic cups, SC Villa is the most successful club in terms of league titles, having won 17 times.
For Vipers SC, it has been a methodical progress to the top of Uganda’s footballing scene. In perhaps one of its most strategic moves, the club was renamed from Bunamwaya FC to give it a national appeal.
Since promoting to the top flight in 2006, Vipers SC has consistently featured in the top 10 and has won the league title 7 times.
The club’s maiden title came in 2009, just 3 years after it was promoted. What followed was utter domination from the Kitende-based club, which has also won the Ugandan Cup 4 times.
