Body by Design Allegedly Charges Ksh. 1 Million for Brazillian Butt Lift
Kenyans are reeling in shock following the sad events at Body by Design, a beauty clinic based in Nairobi.
The now-closed-down facility is responsible for the death of Lucy Wambui, the wife of flamboyant car dealer Francis Ng’ang’a who is a close associate of former governor Mike Sonko.
Aggrieved by the demise of his family friend, Mike Sonko led a group of youth to protest and close down the facility.
“Hii ni biashara ya upuzi ya kuua dada zetu, kuna watu zaidi ya tisa wamekufia hapa,” said Sonko as he addressed the charged crowd outside the clinic.
The former governor accused the ‘nonsensical’ clinic of butchering women in the full glare of the police and local leadership.
To demonstrate how useless and predatory the clinic is, Governor Sonko read out a rate card listing ridiculously high prices for different cosmetic operations.
Below are some of the exorbitant fees charged for liposuction, Brazilian butt lifts, breast lifts, and other procedures at Body by Design clinic, as revealed by Sonko:
- Liposuction – Ksh. 1 million
- Breast lifting – Ksh. 880,000
- Brazilian Butt Lift – Ksh. 1 million
- Vaginoplasty – Ksh. 400,000
Sonko cautioned Kenyan ladies against the temptations of pursuing body enhancement procedures terming them as dangerous.
“We are calling on our mothers and sisters to be contented with their bodies. If they must seek cosmetic treatment, it should be done by competent hospitals and doctors. We condemn such practices,” said Sonko.
Exploring the Mad Dash For Plastic Surgery
Cosmetic surgery has become increasingly popular as individuals seek to enhance their appearance and boost self-confidence.
Cosmetic surgeries are particularly sought-after by middle-class to wealthy young women including influencers who undergo the grueling procedures for sex appeal.
Social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok are flocked with clinically-enhanced women flaunting enlarged hips, breasts, and buttocks for likes and prominence.
Interestingly, some influential women on social media view cosmetic surgery as a crucial investment in their brand and influencing careers.
A quick spot check on social media shows videos of young women recovering in beds after surgery. Following the crucial weeks in bed, many take on various jobs including escort services and full-time influencing.
For some, however, the procedures turn out badly leading to extended hospitalization and even death.
Mike Sonko Leads the Closure of Body By Design Plastic Surgery Clinic
Sonko led a contingent of police, lawyers, and officers from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council in closing down Body by Design, which also goes by the name Omnicare Medical.
Sonko disclosed that based on his research, the management of the facility including its CEO lacks qualifications in medical matters.
The one-term Nairobi governor also demanded answers from the authorities regarding the tragic deaths of over 9 women at the facility.
Armed with a closure notice, a chain, and a padlock, Sonko with his entourage stormed the facility late Thursday evening and closed it down.
Lucy Wambui’s family lawyer Mr. Murage was also present during the closure. While addressing the press, the lawyer announced plans for a major class action suit against Body by Design clinic for atrocities committed against Kenyan women.
Murage also put on notice influencers that have been paid to promote the facility, stating that they will also be brought to book.
“These are business people who are gambling with the lives of innocent people. You know yourselves, influencers who have been coming here getting free services and then going on media to tell Kenyans to take these procedures. We are going to follow the money, we will find you and you will be a guest of the state,” said the lawyer.
Victims of the facility have been advised to come forward and submit helpful information and evidence through a soon-to-be-announced email address.
The volunteered information will help prosecute the shady crooked individuals allegedly hiding behind a licensed shell company.
